STRESS FRACTURES

Your bones should develop with time, the strength to do what you do with them.

The more you exercise, the more you train for your particular sport, the more you receive the bumps of contact sport, the more your bones will strengthen to help you cope with this.

If you develop a stress fracture this happened for a reason. Your bones are similar to your ligaments and should develop the strength they require to perform the tasks you ask of them. The biggest cause of stress fractures is malabsorption followed by acidosis; which means your bones aren’t receiving the nutrition they require in order to get stronger, and continue to strengthen, or the acid levels in your body are weakening your bones making them vulnerable to injury.

Your body is acidic, and it draws on the calcium and phosphate within your bones in an attempt to alkalise itself; this is why acidosis is one to the leading causes of osteoporosis not lack calcium consumption.

So, if you want to have bones that are strong enough to cope with the rough and tumble of your sport there are two questions you should ask if you get a stress fracture or have recurrent stress fractures.

The first question is, what can I do to improve my absorption?

The second question is, what can I do to bring my body back from being acidic?

Q1. Malabsorption occurs when your digestive system isn’t absorbing nutrients from your diet at an optimal level. The problem with malabsorption is it affects people to varying degrees so sometimes it’s hard to notice, and it also depends on the amount of training or exercise you partake in. The fitter you want to be the more critical it is that you have absorption working at 100%.

Malabsorption can occur from problems in your salivary gland, digestive enzyme production, health of your gut microbiome, and small intestine absorption

The number one cause of malabsorption is gluten and dairy intolerances; these intolerances create a mucous laying over your digestive systems membrane which blocks absorption.

So, have yourself tested for gluten and dairy intolerances; I do this at Ridiculously Well using Applied Kinesiology.

You may also need to take supplements to breakdown the mucous build up in your gut called a biofilm.

Once you’ve been tested for gluten and dairy intolerance and found to be positive and you’ve eliminated them from your diet, the next step is to have yourself tested to see if you need to increase your mineral, protein, fruit and vegies, Vit C, Omega 3 oils ,Zinc, Vit D, Calcium, Creatine, Glucosamine  intake. This is so your body can supple your ligaments with the extra nutrition they need to help them attain their proper strength.

Q2. Acidosis in the body is very common it’s normally the result of an excessive consumption of sugar, coffee and alcohol. Stress in one’s life can also lead to acidosis. Training can build up acid levels as well.

On overly acidic environment causes the body to look for ways to bring itself back from being acidic to its more neutral pH, it does this by robbing the bones of calcium and phosphate which are alkalidsing in their nature; it is this very subtle breakdown of the bone that makes it vulnerable to stress fractures.

If you have persistent joint pain or morning joint pain, if training increases joint soreness and your muscle soreness seems to linger longer than it used to, if your joints or your body generally is stiff, you most likely have acidosis.

“Accept nothing less than feeling great and being injury free.”

Correcting Acidosis:

  1. Diet: Get off sugar, coffee and alcohol. Increase fresh fruit and vegies. Have yourself allergy tested for gluten and dairy sensitivity.
  2. Take supplements that assist the body to alkalise I use an alkalising form of Magnesium and Calcium. (known as Coral Calcium), Bicarb of soda, 7.2’s Hydro FX, Wise Nutrients Hydrogen Regen which facilitates the production of molecular hydrogen.
  3. Realign the spine: This balances the body helping in nerve, blood and lymphatic flow. It also helps relax the body. Have someone check to make sure your ears, shoulders and hips are level and your body isn’t rotated when you think you’re standing square.
  4. Use reflexology: This helps organs and the lymphatics to flush out the acid.
  5. Improve your gut health: Use prebiotic and probiotics.
  6. Other issues can be making your body acidic and you may need examining to see if they are an underlying cause of your acidosis.ie root canals, cavitations, parasites, candida overgrowth, mould toxicity, viruses or bacteria infections that are acute or chronic, heavy metal or chemical toxicities.
